Election
An election is a process in which people vote to choose a person or group of people to hold an official position.
공식적인 직위를 가진 그룹 혹은 사람을 선출하는 과정
대통령 선거는 presidential election 입니다.
그 외에 parliamentary election (의회 의원 선거),
council election (지방 의회 선거)가 있습니다.
Vote 투표

A ballot is a device used to cast votes in an election, and may be a piece of paper or a small ball used in secret voting.
투표권을 가진 사람이 한 표를 행사할 때 사용하는 표현입니다.
“Ballot”은 투표용지를 뜻하며 ‘투표하다’라는 의미도 가집니다.
The leader will be chosen by secret ballot.
대표는 비밀 투표로 선출된다.

옛날 미국에서 정치 지도자들이 대중의 지지를 얻기 위해 악대 차(bandwagon)를 타고 정치 퍼레이드를 벌인 모습에서 유래한 표현입니다. 선거에는 ‘우세한 편에 붙다’ 혹은 ‘누구를 지지하다’라는 뜻으로 사용될 수 있습니다.
